Tester guide

Thanks for helping test Monation. This walks you through everything to try, with the test data you'll need. About 20–30 minutes.

Before you start

Where: https://monation.org (this is our staging/test site).

What you'll need: an email address you can check (for the sign-in code and invites), and the test payment details below. A desktop browser is best.

How sign-in works: there are no passwords. You enter your email and we send a 5-digit code; you type it in to sign in. Check spam if it's slow.

Test payment details (use these, not real ones)

Test bank — for ACH and for connecting a Stripe account

Routing 110000000, account 000123456789 (succeeds). For "log into your bank" prompts, choose Stripe's Test Institution and it auto-fills.

If a Stripe onboarding form asks for identity details, use test data: SSN 000-00-0000, any normal past date of birth, any address. Stripe test mode usually offers a "use test data" shortcut.

What to test — step by step

1. Create your account

  1. Go to monation.org and click Get started / Sign up.
  2. Enter your name and email, click Continue. Check your email for the 5-digit code and enter it.
  3. Fill in an organization name (anything), continue through the steps.
  4. On the plan step, pick Growth. You'll be sent to Stripe's secure checkout — enter test card 4242 4242 4242 4242. You won't be charged (14-day trial).
  5. You should land in the dashboard.

2. Campaign & widget

  1. Open the Campaign tab.
  2. Change the title, subtitle, goal, accent color, and toggles. Watch the Test widget on the right update live.
  3. Click Save changes — it should say "Saved".
  4. Reload the page and confirm your changes stuck.

3. Embed the widget (optional but great)

  1. Open the Embed tab and copy the snippet (it has your real campaign slug).
  2. Paste it into any test HTML page (or a tool like CodePen) and load it — the donate button appears bottom-right.
  3. Click it, choose an amount, and hit Donate. It records a demo gift (no card needed yet — see limitations).
  4. Back in the dashboard Donations tab, confirm the gift appears; try Export CSV.

4. Campaign pages

  1. Open Campaign pagesCreate a page. Add a headline, story, goal, accent, and (optionally) upload a banner image.
  2. Click Preview to see the live page, then Publish. Your first page on a paid plan is free.
  3. Create a second page — this time you'll be sent to Stripe for the $9.99 charge (use 4242 4242 4242 4242). After paying, the page goes live.
  4. On a page row, try Extend · $9.99 (same test card) and Copy link / Preview.

5. Team invites

  1. Open Team+ Invite member. Enter a second email you can check and pick a role.
  2. Open that invite email → click through → enter the 5-digit code → you should land in the dashboard as that teammate (now "Active" in the owner's Team list).
  3. As the owner, try changing a role and removing a member.

6. Notifications

  1. Open Notifications. Change the frequency, threshold, recipients, and what's included.
  2. Click Save changes, reload, and confirm it stuck.

7. Nonprofit verification

  1. Open Verification. Enter a real 501(c)(3) EIN (your org's, or any known public charity's).
  2. Click Verify status — it should look the org up and show its 501(c)(3) status. Try an invalid number too and confirm you get a clear error.

8. Connect a Stripe account (Account tab)

  1. Open the Account tab and click Connect Stripe.
  2. You'll go to Stripe's hosted onboarding. Use the test bank and test identity data above (look for Stripe's "use test data" shortcut).
  3. Finish — you should return to the dashboard showing Connected.
  4. Try Disconnect and confirm it clears.

How to report what you find

Use the 💬 Share feedback button (bottom-right of the dashboard) or the Get help tab to send us notes — both go straight to the team. For each issue, a quick note on what you did, what you expected, and what happened is perfect. Screenshots help. Thank you!
